How Canon’s Making Our Gorgeous 4K Dreams a Reality

Media_httpimggawkeras_cbcjb
via gizmodo.com

The Canon EOS-1D C is the 4K DSLR that many filmmakers have been clamoring for. It costs $15,000, which means you can’t afford it. Bummer? Hardly. Canon’s paving the road to a beautiful super-high-resolution future. Get excited.
When we first got a look at Canon’s 4K DSLR concept in the fall, we were cautiously excited. It’s undeniably neat technology, but we knew it would be outrageously expensive, and it’s not tech that’s meant for your average consumer. Make no mistake: the 1D C is targeted squarely at pro filmmakers. While most DSLRs only shoot Full HD 1920 x 1080-pixel footage, the 1D C can shoot at up to a whopping 4096 x 2160 resolution. That’s currently really only useful for high-end productions that are going to be screened using expensive 4K projectors. Films like The Social Network were shot in 4K. Your friend’s indie flick? Probably not.

Canon unveils EOS-1D C and C500 4K Cinema cameras, two new lenses ahead of NAB

Media_httpwwwblogcdnc_rohat
via engadget.com

In a departure from its last introduction as dramatic as the C300’s Hollywood launch itself, Canon has quietly announced two additional cameras to sit alongside the company’s former lone flagship. You may have caught a glimpse of the EOS-1D C at the C300 launch, but what six months ago was a mere mock-up has actually become a reality, likely to ship sometime this year. More out of left field, however, is the C500 — a higher-end version of the C300 that adds several shooting modes, dual 3G-SDI ports and a larger, permanent grip. Both cameras can capture 4K video, but in substantially different ways.

Hands On With The New Canon 24-70 & 24mm + 28mm IS Primes

Media_httpdancarrphot_eazsa
via dancarrphotography.com

Recently Canon announced the introduction of three new lenses to their EF lineup. The long awaited 24-70 f2.8 L II finally broke cover as well as two wide prime lenses with IS, the first of their kind. Much has been made about the projected $2300 price point for the new 24-70 though which is about $1200 more than you can currently get the previous version for. In the last couple of years Canon have updated some old lenses and introduced some new ones, all of which I have found to be exemplary so my gut feeling is that for pros, the price point will be justified. I was never that enamored with the wide open quality of the MKI version of this lens, it’s one of the few L series lenses that I have never owned so the prospect of a higher quality version is something I have looked forward to for some time.

Canon PowerShot S95 Camera Review

Media_httpwwwthedphot_ocqot
via thedphoto.com

The following Canon PowerShot S95 camera review is a guest post written by Blake Sanders.
The Canon PowerShot S95 is a powerful compact camera that delivers photographs with incredible realism at high resolutions. Though the camera will fit in your pocket, it features a variety of professional attributes that consumers would not expect from a camera of this size.
The 3.0 inch LCD display aids in getting the perfect shot and is ideal for viewing images instantly. The camera has a full range of manual shooting modes as well. Consumers simply cannot deny the capabilities of this camera with its 10 megapixel CMOS sensor, extensive zoom lens, fast maximum aperture, and reasonable price.
