Black and white photography is in my opinion the most creative type of photography. The lack of color in black and white photos means our brains pick up more details making this type of photography very hard for the photographer and also makes his/her talent stand-out.

Beautiful black and white photography though elegant and graceful, is really hard to achieve. It takes the right equipment, the right situation and a whole lot of skill to create an amazing black and white photo.

“Born in Hampstead – London, I’m a self taught British award winning photographer currently living in Eastern France. I first got interested in photography during my late teens, mainly through my father who was an avid photographer, having work published in various magazines and journals, as well as a number of international salons and solo exhibitions. I bought my first camera a Zenith EM, and used this to try and get to grips with apertures, shutter speeds and film speeds, which was fairly easy to get to grips with before moving onto a medium format Mamiya C220, but what I really lacked at time was the artistic ability, to transform what was in my head onto film, and after a while, frustration led to my interest in photography being put to one side. 25 years later, and with the digital age upon us, and the fact that I was working in a photographic studio, the fire was re-ignited: the fact that I was working with Photoshop on a daily basis and treating images in the office rather than in a darkroom, along with a chance visit to the social photographic website Flickr.

Gavin Dunbar is a keen amateur photographer from Edinburgh. Having taken up photography again a few years ago, over the last 12 months it has now become his serious hobby. Some of us got the chance to see the following building and architecture designs in many places around the world and find it as beautiful artwork pieces that stand in our cities and streets. Photographers revealed to us another form of beauty behind these architectures by thinking in it as part of their photographs elements in addition to the lights and shadows. “I got seriously into photography about 3 years ago when I realized digital SLRs were starting to get very good (I hate the whole darkroom experience so was never tempted by film). I love dramatic perspectives and clarity and perfection in composition. Design and symmetry but most of all, creating/capturing ambience are big things for me, creating harmony out of the chaotic world around us. I guess I am one of “Kenna’s children” but don’t have that many other photographic influences, I tend to find inspiration elsewhere, from music for example. That said, I love the work of Julius Tjintjelaar who always manages to push the game along and Steve Landeros, a real master of textural and tonal balance.
